Virtual reality for training: the example of automobile brands

Automotive brands have long understood the importance of professional training in developing the skills and knowledge of their employees. In recent years, they have invested heavily in advanced technologies such as virtual reality and/or augmented reality to make training even more effective.

At Volkswagen, for example, learners are immersed in a virtual environment that reproduces a real logistics center. Increasing levels of difficulty allow learners to repeat the exercises as many times as they wish, at a personalized pace, until they achieve optimal results. This immersive approach allows learners to better understand logistical processes and procedures and to put them into practice in a risk-free environment, while improving their confidence and efficiency.

BMW Group offers hyperrealistic simulations of assembly line work, customer service, and the functions of safety managers. Training is structured in three different areas for a comprehensive approach to training: workplace planning, acquisition of knowledge and skills, and comparison of component and design data. This immersive training allows learners to develop their skills in a practical and personalized way, offering them a more engaged and interesting learning experience.

At PSA - Peugeot, employees learn how to make their working day as efficient as possible, by also covering non-technical skills such as communication #softskills. Simulations allow them to improve their understanding of processes and procedures, while developing practical skills, such as conflict management and problem solving.

But immersive training is not limited to internal jobs. Automotive brands also use virtual reality to enhance customer experience and boost loyalty. Customers can use driving simulators to discover the different driving, maintenance and repair options of vehicles, while learning to become familiar with cutting-edge technologies and features.

Immersive training is an effective way for these brands to train their employees, improve their customer experience and build loyalty. This approach provides a more practical, engaging and engaging learning experience, while developing skills and knowledge in a personalized and effective way.
